#15 Cumberlands Walks Off #16 Lindsey Wilson to Close Series

Williamsburg, KY – The fifteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands closed out its Mid-South Conference series against #16 Lindsey Wilson University (Ky.) with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the UC Softball Complex. The Patriots move to 19-10 overall and 4-2 in MSC play.

PATS WALK IT OFF TO CLOSE SERIES

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to plate an unearned run and go ahead 1-0.

Cumberlands responded in the bottom half. Abby Guinn reached with a double before Aniyah White was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Maleah Clinton, who delivered an RBI double to left center to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams were held in check through the middle innings as the game settled into a pitcher's duel. Jessica Cord worked out of multiple jams, stranding runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots broke through. Guinn reached on a walk before Jae Jae Phillips entered as a pinch runner. Aniyah White then laid down a bunt single and advanced to second, while Phillips raced home on the play to score the game-winning run and secure the 2-1 victory.

Cord earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits and striking out three.

White and Clinton each recorded RBIs in the win, while Guinn sparked the final rally.
