Cook and Foskey Post Strong Efforts as Patriots Earn Road Win over Cougars

Mount Vernon, OH – Nathan Cook netted five goals, while Nathan Foskey made 18 saves as the fifth-ranked Patriots defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 18-10 Saturday afternoon.  With the win, UC improves to 2-2 on the year, while the Cougars move to 5-2.

Cook netted a career-high on just six shots, while Dom Lulow added three goals and a pair of assists.  Will Rogers chipped in a hat trick.  Dakota White went 17-25 on faceoffs, scooped a game-high 12 ground balls and added a goal in the win.  Foskey's 18 saves are the sixth most in a game in program history.

The Cougars struck first, however, the Patriots responded with an unassisted goal from Will Rogers to tie the game at 1-1 with 11:46 remaining.  A minute later, Dom Lulow connected with Dennis Smith for a goal giving Cumberlands the 2-1 advantage. UC had four players combine for four unanswered goals, capped off by a Lulow goal extending the lead to 6-1 with 5:56 remaining.  Mount Vernon Nazerene netted four straight goals while Nathan Foksey tallied three saves.  In the closing minute of the period Nathan Cook connected with the back of the cage giving UC a 7-4 lead.

The Patriots picked up their defensive intensity behind a trio of saves from Nathan Foskey.  UC extended their as Caleb Mason connected with Caden Abbott for a goal midway through the second quarter.  A few minutes later, Sid Stewart tallied an unassisted goal giving the Patriots a 9-4 edge.  After the two teams traded goals, Cook completed his hat trick as Cumberlands took an 11-5 lead. The Patriots added a late goal from Rogers to make it 12-5 at the break. 

The Cougars netted back-to-back goals to open the third quarter before Cook scored her career-high fourth goal making it 13-7 midway through the quarter.  UC extended their as Austin Hering found Lulow for a man-down goal.  Dakote White won the ensuing faceoff and on that possession, Rogers converted with his third goal making it 15-7 with 3:42 remaining.  Lulow added a goal before finding Cook cutting in front of the cage for a score making it 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Foskey notched six saves in the fourth quarter as Mount Vernon cut the lead to 17-10 with 4:58 remaining.  White won the ensuing faceoff and scored an unassisted goal for the 18-10 final. 

The Patriots return to the field Thursday, March 12, when they travel to Waleska, GA to face #4 Reinhardt.  The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
