Williamsburg, KY – The twentieth-ranked University of the Cumberlands earned a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Georgetown College (Ky.) on Friday evening at the UC Softball Complex. The Patriots improve to 25-13 overall and 6-4 in Mid-South Conference play. 

PATS WALK IT OFF IN EXTRAS 

Georgetown struck first in the opening inning, using a two-RBI single to take an early 2-0 lead. 

Cumberlands responded in the third inning. Jae Jae Phillips led off with a double before Aniyah White followed with an RBI double to put the Patriots on the board. Maleah Clinton then laid down a bunt single and advanced to second, allowing White to score and tie the game at 2-2. 

Both teams were held scoreless through the middle innings as the game turned into a pitcher's duel. Jessica Cord worked through multiple scoring threats, including stranding a runner at third in the seventh and working around a triple in the eighth to keep the Patriots within reach. 

In the bottom of the eighth, Cumberlands delivered the decisive blow. Phillips reached base and advanced into scoring position before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt. Lillian Buckley then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Phillips to score the game-winning run and secure the 3-2 victory. 

Cord earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out eight. 

White and Clinton each drove in runs for the Patriots, while Phillips sparked the offense with a double and scored twice.

Cumberlands will conclude the series against Georgetown College (Ky.) tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM at the UC Softball Complex.
