Pats Start the Weekend off Hot Across Multiple Meets

ASHEVILLE, NC – The University of the Cumberlands men's track & field team competed across three meets this weekend, highlighted by multiple strong performances on both the track and in the field along with a NAIA national standard.

Asheville Bulldog Invitational

The Patriots were led by a standout performance from Willy Mabena in the 200 meters, as he won the event in 20.94. The mark hit the NAIA B standard and currently ranks second in the NAIA this season.
 
Tanner Tumey also picked up a victory, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.91, a personal-best that ranks No. 30 in the NAIA. Zion Pruitt competed in the event as well.
 
Cumberlands placed five athletes inside the top-10 in the 200 meters. Roy Miller finished fourth in 21.41, followed by Jermaine Thompson in fifth at 21.58. Noah Kincade recorded a personal-best 21.76, while Aarontae Wesley added a personal-best 21.84.
 
In the field events, Seth Massie placed third in the javelin with a throw of 47.43 meters, while Tanner Tumey recorded 36.37 meters. Massie also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 7.14 meters, while Tumey added a jump of 6.50 meters and Zach Lawson recorded 5.33 meters.

Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational

Cumberlands saw a strong showing in the distance events, led by a trio of top-30 NAIA performances in the 1500 meters. Niklas Scherb ran 3:54.81, while Sean Crady followed with a personal-best 3:55.23. Caden Cull added a time of 3:58.91.
 
Victor Carpeggiani posted a time of 4:04.19, while Ben Beilfub recorded a personal-best 4:07.52 and Linus Schaller added a personal-best 4:12.17.
 
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Cuauhtemoc Fitiao recorded a time of 9:44.74, ranking No. 23 in the NAIA.
 
The 5000 meters saw Casey Desilvey post a personal-best 14:51.28, ranking No. 22 in the NAIA, while Noah McClellan recorded a time of 15:28.44.

Scots Invitational

In the throws, Austin Meacham led the way with a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.83 meters. Byron Collier added a mark of 34.28 meters.
 
Meacham followed with a victory in the javelin, recording a throw of 42.99 meters, while Collier added a mark of 31.43 meters.
 
UC will be back tomorrow for the second day at all three meets, looking to build off their hot starts today.
