Williamsburg, KY – The eighteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands opened its series against Bethel University (Tenn.) with a dominant 9-0 run-rule victory on Friday evening at the UC Softball Complex. The Patriots improve to 29-14 overall and 9-4 in Mid-South Conference play. 

PATS EXPLODE EARLY IN RUN-RULE WIN 

Cumberlands wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. After Grace Ross and Alyssa Garcia reached, Emily Delgado drove in the opening run with a single before Jenna Fabela added a sacrifice fly. Aniyah White capped the inning with an RBI single to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead. 

The Patriots broke the game open in the second inning with six runs. Aggressive baserunning highlighted the frame as Krystal Anne Castaneda stole home before Maleah Clinton came around to score on a single from Ross. Cumberlands continued to apply pressure, with Fabela delivering an RBI double and Jae Jae Phillips adding a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 9-0. 

Cumberlands totaled six hits in the contest while drawing six walks, continuing a trend of offensive balance this season as the Patriots entered the game hitting .320 as a team . 

Jessica Cord controlled the game in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out one. 

Ross led the offense with a hit and an RBI, while Fabela and Phillips each drove in multiple runs in the win.
