Patriots Sweep Shawnee State on Senior Day

Williamsburg, KY – The eighteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands closed out its regular season home schedule on Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of Shawnee State University (Ohio) on Tuesday at the UC Softball Complex. The Patriots earned a 3-1 victory in game one before taking a 2-1 win in the nightcap, improving to 33-14 overall as they wrapped up their conference regular season slate. 

Game 1: ROSS SETS RECORD, CORD CONTROLS CIRCLE 

Cumberlands struck first in the opening inning when Grace Ross launched a solo home run to left field, marking her 15th home run of the season and setting a new program single-season record. 

The Patriots added to their lead in the third inning as Ross reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Kristen Smith to make it 2-0. 

Shawnee State broke through in the sixth with a run to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Cumberlands responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Lillian Buckley delivered an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 3-1. 

Jessica Cord was steady in the circle, tossing a complete-game effort while allowing just one run on four hits to secure the win. 

Ross finished with a home run and two runs scored, while Smith and Buckley each added RBIs. 

Game 2: PATS EDGE BEARS TO COMPLETE SWEEP 

Cumberlands scored first in the opening inning as Emily Delgado singled home Grace Ross to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. The Patriots added another run in the fourth when Ryann Livingston singled in Jae Jae Phillips to make it 2-0.

Shawnee State cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the sixth, but Cumberlands held on late to secure the 2-1 victory.

Emily Delgado earned the win in the circle, allowing one run over six innings, while Brenna Parker closed the game to earn the save.

Cumberlands will return to action on the road to close out the Mid-South Conference regular season as they travel to face Cumberland University (Tenn.) for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, followed by a single game Friday at 1:00 PM in Lebanon, TN.
