McKenzie, TN – The #8 Patriots (29-6, 11-1 MSC) completed the series sweep over Bethel on Friday afternoon, taking both games of the doubleheader at the Kahlden Complex. Cumberlands won game one 15-7 before finishing the sweep with a 17-7 victory in game two. It marks the Patriots third Mid-South Conference sweep of the season.
No. 8 Cumberlands Pulls Away Late in 15-7 Game One Win
The Patriots used a massive sixth inning to break open a close game and secure a 15-7 victory in the opener.
Stuart Tharle earned the win after tossing 2.1 innings, while
Justin Cortez provided three strong innings of relief, striking out six.
Yannis Rembert closed out the game.
At the plate, Cumberlands totaled 13 hits and drew 10 walks in the win.
Dariel Castillo led the way with two hits and two RBI, while
Derick Andiarena added three RBI.
Ronald Almanzar and
Bryce Turner each drove in multiple runs, with Turner launching a three-run home run.
The Patriots jumped out early with a five-run second inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Castillo and Almanzar.
Bethel responded with runs in the second and third to cut the deficit to 5-3, but UC maintained control.
Cumberlands broke the game open in the sixth, erupting for 10 runs on six hits. Castillo and Andiarena each drove in runs before Turner capped the inning with a three-run homer to extend the lead to 15-3.
Bethel added four runs late, but the Patriots' offensive surge proved too much in the 15-7 victory.
No. 8 Cumberlands Slugs Seven Home Runs in 17-7 Win
The Patriots completed the sweep in dominant fashion, blasting a season-high seven home runs in a 17-7 win in the nightcap.
Nolan Wilson earned the win after allowing five runs over 2.2 innings, while
Brayden Stewart provided 4.1 innings of strong relief, striking out five.
Jack Scrofano finished the game on the mound.
Cumberlands tallied 19 hits in the victory, led by
Caden Petrey's three-hit, three-RBI performance.
Pedro Vasquez homered twice and drove in two runs, while S. De La Cruz added two home runs and four RBI.
Justin Veloz also went deep, and
Dariel Castillo and
Johnboy Rittenhouse each contributed home runs as part of the offensive explosion.
The Patriots set the tone early, scoring four runs in the first inning behind home runs from Castillo, Rittenhouse, and Vasquez.
UC continued to pile on with a six-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from De La Cruz to extend the lead to 10-1.
Bethel responded with four runs in the third to cut into the deficit, but Cumberlands answered immediately.
The Patriots added runs in four straight innings, including a two-run fourth and a three-run sixth, before capping the scoring with two more runs in the eighth to secure the 17-7 victory.
Cumberlands finished the day with 32 runs on 32 hits across the doubleheader while continuing its strong start in Mid-South Conference play.
The Patriots will return to the field Tuesday April 7
th for a midweek contest at Midway. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
