Williamsburg, KY – Playing a pivotal role in their team's success, cheerleader Hannah King and outfielder Derick Andiarena have been selected as the March Athletes of the Month presented by The Brick Oven, the athletic department announced Monday. The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner, The Brick Oven, are presenting the "The Brick Oven Athletes of the Month", which will be awarded to the top two student-athletes each month.
 
Hannah King earned athlete of the month honors after an incredible postseason run.  King was a key part of the Patriots cheerleading team that broke the program record scoring a 95.08 to capture the Mid-South Conference Championship. In addition to the team success, King was named the MSC Cheerleader of the Year as well as the MSC Freshman of the Year.  The Patriots and King followed that up with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA National Championship.  The team posted a nationals best score of 91.73 to earn their highest finish in program history.  King closed out the month earning NAIA First Team All-American honors becoming just the second UC cheerleader to garner that honor.
 
Derick Andiarena earned athlete of the month honors after strong performances to open MSC play.  The senior hit .479 with 35 RBIs, 35 hits and eight homeruns. Andiarena opened the month with a three hit performance against Northwestern Ohio.  He added three hits, including a pair of homers and three RBIs over the final two games of that series.  In a double header against Milligan, Andiarena tallied five hits, five RBIs and four runs scored.  The Añasco, Puerto Rico native opened MSC play tallying nine hits, 12 RBIs, two homers and six runs scored as the Patriots swept the Phoenix.  That performances led to Andiarena being named the NAIA Player of the Week.  He followed that up with eight hits and seven RBI in the sweep of Georgetown and added three hits, and a trio of RBI as UC won the series against Lindsey Wilson.  He is currently third in the NAIA in RBIs with 56, while leading the MSC in home runs and being ranked second with a .411 average.
