Williamsburg, KY – Record breaking performances leads to cheerleader Kylee Neace and sprinter Tavon Davis garnering Pepsi Athletes of the Week honors, the athletic department announced Monday.
Kylee Neace earned Athlete of the Week honors after her strong leadership helped guide the Patriots cheer team to a fourth place finish at the NAIA National Championships. Cumberlands opened nationals scoring an 89.73 to be in sixth place after the prelims. The Patriots improved their score with a flawless routine during the finals tallying a 92.6 points, which is worth 75% of their overall score. UC closed out the championship with a program-best score of 91.73 to capture a fourth place finish, their highest finish in program history.
Tavon Davis earned athlete of the week honors after a stellar performance at the Raleigh Relays. Davis had a historic weekend, breaking the program 400m record by winning the 400m at one of the biggest DI meets this weekend. He ran the fastest time in the NAIA crossing the line in 45.75, which also broke the school record. Davis followed that up anchoring UC's 4x400 relay to a fourth place finish, clocking a time of 3:10.56. That time is the fastest 4x400 time in the NAIA this season as well.
