Williamsburg, KY – Playing a pivotal role in their team's success, attacker Ashlee Baker and outfielder Pedro Vasquez have been selected as the April Athletes of the Month presented by The Brick Oven, the athletic department announced Wednesday. The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner, The Brick Oven, are presenting the "The Brick Oven Athletes of the Month", which will be awarded to the top two student-athletes each month.
 
Ashlee Baker earned athlete of the month honors after an incredible month.  Baker paced the Patriots with 18 goals, 25 assists, and 43 points, averaging 7.2 ppg during April.  The Las Vegas, NV native opened the month with eight points in the win over Tennessee Wesleyan.  Baker added six points against Montreat before tallying three goals and six assists in the win over #4 Reinhardt.  The junior tallied five assists against Georgetown in the regular season finale, before notching five points against the Tigers in the AAC semifinals.  Baker closed out the month with six goals and eight points in the AAC championship helping UC capture both the regular season and tournament title.  Baker also notched 18 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the month.
 
Pedro Vasquez earned athlete of the month honors after hitting .434 with 17 extra base hits, 15 RBIs, and 37 runs scored.  The senior opened the month going 5-11 with three doubles, and pair of homers, and three RBIs in UC's sweep over Bethel.  Vazquez added a pair of hits against Midway and Kentucky State, including a homer.  Vasquez added four hits, two homers, and four runs scored as Cumberlands took the series from Freed-Hardeman.  He closed out the regular season with five hits, five runs scored, and a pair of doubles in the sweep over Campbellsville.  During the MSC Tournament, Vasquez hit .406 with six RBI and three homers.  He went 2-3 with a homerun and four runs scored against the Tigers.  Vasquez capped off the month going 3-8 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored as Cumberlands captured the MSC title.
