Patriots Win 10th Straight Season Opener Behind Trio of Goals

Williamsburg, KY – Two freshman netted their first collegiate goals as the second-ranked Patriots women's soccer team defeated Union Commonwealth 3-0 in their 2026 season opener Saturday night at the UC Soccer Complex.  The win marks the tenth consecutive season opener that UC has won.

Cumberlands outshot the Bulldogs 21-0 in the contest, while holding a 12-1 edge on corner kicks.  Tori Robertson, Lida Skjoldager, and Carmen Villa each netted goals in the win, while Laura Bosca notched an assist.

UC controlled the possession from the opening minute.  The Patriot struck in the 2' as Wakana Ose centered the ball for Robertson, who two touches before finishing with the first goal of the season making it 1-0.  Cumberlands tallied five shots, two of which were on frame, and a trio of corner kicks over the next ten minutes of action but the score held at 1-0.

Cumberlands looked to extend their lead as Skjoldager shot deflected off the crossbar in the 19'.  A minute later Letizia Traversone brought the ball up the left flank and centered it into the box.  After the ball bounced around Skjoldager was there for the finish extending the lead to 2-0 at the 19:30 mark.  Later in the first half, Bosca won the possession and pushed the ball forward to Villa, who put a well-placed shot in the net for her first collegiate goal giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead.

The Patriots controlled the majority of the second half with nine shots and five corner kicks.  Five minutes into the half, Evelyn Saldivar put a shot on frame, however, it was saved keeping the score 3-0. Bosca and Saldivar each  put a shot on frame in the closing ten minutes of the contest but saves from the Bulldogs led to the 3-0 final.
Morgan White earns the shutout victory for the Patriots.
