Stifling Defense Leads #2 Patriots to Scoreless Draw Against #5 Marian

Indianapolis, IN – In a match that lived up to its billing as a top-five matchup, the second-ranked Patriots earned a 0-0 draw against #5 Marian behind a stifling defensive effort Tuesday night.  Cumberlands moves to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Knights move to 3-0-1.

Morgan White made four saves in the match to earn her second shutout of the season.  UC's backline of Samantha Sokolove, Maliah Mitchell, Vlada Milovic, and Juliette Charriez kept the pressure on the Knights offense throughout the game.  The Patriots tallied eight shots and five corner kicks in the game as Abigail Little led the way with three shots, while Nicole Araujo and Letizia Traversone took a pair of shots each.

The Patriots look for a quick strike as they sent a cross into the box, however, Nicole Araujo's run came up short keeping the match scoreless.  The Knight records four shots in the first nine minutes of play with Morgan White notching a pair of saves, while Laura Bosca blocked another Marian shot keeping the match even.  Marian continued to apply pressure, tallying two corner kicks as White made her third save as the score remained 0-0.  In the 18', Araujo stepped in front of a pass and put a shot on frame, which was saved by the Knights.  The two teams traded possession until Abigail Little notched a shot towards goal, however, the game stayed tied with 15' minutes remaining in the first half.  In the closing minutes of the half, Marian notched a trio of corner kicks, while Liz Fischer put a shote on frame, which White leaped to knock it out for save as the game went into the break scoreless.

After an hour delay due to a power outage, Marian opened the second with four shots, three of which were blocked by the Patriots defense.  The two teams traded possession as both defenses limited scoring opportunities.  Cumberlands had a chance in the 74' as Juliette Charriez sent a free kick into the box, where Letizia Traversone header deflected off the post, keeping the match scoreless. UC continued to apply pressure with shots from Abigail Little and Charriez both of which missed wide in the 81'.  In the closing minute of the game, Olivia Parmer put a shot on frame but White made a diving save to preserve the shutout and the draw.

UC returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 5th, when they travel to Marion, IN to face #11 Indiana Wesleyan.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with live video available here.
