Williamsburg, KY – In a match that lived up to the billings he top-ranked Cumberlands women's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to #2 Keiser 2-0 Saturday night at the UC Soccer Complex. The Seahawks improve to 5-0-1, while the Patriots move to 3-1-2.
Morgan White made five saves, while
Letizia Traversone tallied a team-high three shots.
Keiser outshot Cumberlands 9-1 in the first half, including a pair of shots in the first three minutes of play. The Seahawks tallied two shots, however, White was there for save keeping the match scoreless. UC's best opportunity came in the 14' as Everlyn Saldivar put a shot on frame, however, it was saved. The two teams continued to traded possession until the 35' when Keiser broke through to take the 1-0 lead. Cumberlands earned a cornerkick in the closing minute of the half, but were unable to convert as they trailed 1-0 at half.
UC came out strong in the second half with Traversone notching a pair of shots, one of which was saved in the 53'. White ended a promising counter attack by Keiser, before Saldivar sent a cornerkick into the box, where
Vlada Milovic header just missed. The Seahawks extend their lead in the 64' to take the 2-0 advantage. Both teams continued their strong play as the Patriots looked for an opening. Traversone notched a shot in the 82', which was saved as Keiser earned the 2-0 final.
Cumberlands returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 16
