Williamsburg, KY – Carmen Villa netted her first collegiate hat trick, while four other Patriots netted goals as third-ranked Cumberlands opened MSC play with an 8-0 victory over Georgetown Wednesday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex. With the win, UC improves to 4-1-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Tigers move to 2-4-2 and 0-2 against the MSC.
Villa finished with three goals, tallying the first hat trick of the season by a Patriot.
Tori Robertson tallied a season high six-points with two goals and two assists, while
Evelyn Saldivar and
Lisa Skjoldager notched a goal and an assist.
Morgan White and Savanah Dodd combined for two saves, while White also tallied an assist.
UC controlled the possession early, however, were called for five offsides in the first ten minutes of play. In the 12' the Tigers put a shot on frame, however, White made the save to keep the match scoreless. The Patriots broke through a minute later as
Nicole Araujo played a ball forward to Villa, who got behind the defense and netted a goal giving UC a 1-0 lead. The two teams traded possession over the next ten minutes of action before Saldivar pushed the ball forward to Laura Bosca, who netted her second goal of the season making it 2-0. A few minutes later, White played a ball from the back line and found Skjoldager for a goal extending the lead to 3-0 midway through the first half.
Just over a minute later, Saldivar absorb contact and first a shot just inside the back post for her first goal of the season, extending UC's lead to 4-0. Robertson added a goal in the 36' as the Patriots took a 5-0 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half, the Patriots continued to control possession of the ball taking four shots on goal within the first five minutes. A few minutes later, Villa was able to connect on a pass from
Tori Robertson and scored her second goal of the game giving UC a 6-0 lead. The Pats refused to back down by taking three more shots on goal. Robertson forced a turnover and earned the breakaway netting her third goal of the season in the 65' making the score 7-0. Not even two minutes later, Villa finishes off a cross from
Kelsey Baldock to complete the hat trick and extending the Pats lead to 8-0. The final minutes were a battle as both teams continued to fight, but UC held the Tigers scoreless as the final seconds ran off the clock.
Cumberlands returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 19
th, when they travel to Bourbonnais, IL to face Olivet Nazarene. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
