Columbia, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit before falling 3-2 to #10 Lindsey Wilson Saturday night at Ray Wells Field. With the loss, the Patriots move to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1 in Mid-South Conference play.
Lindsey Wilson struck first in the 25' before doubling the advantage in the 35'. Cumberlands looked to respond as Samuel Dolobaipu put a shot on frame and Dunsting Cohen Jr. added a late chance. The Blue Raiders were reduced to 10 men in the 41', but carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Playing with a man advantage, Cumberlands came out of the break applying pressure and cut the deficit in half in the 51'. Jesus Macaya and Vinicius Serafim combined to set up Dolobaipu, who found the back of the net for his second goal of the season to make it 2-1.
The Patriots continued to push forward and found the equalizer in the 64' when Cohen Jr. netted his third goal of the season to level the match at 2-2. Lindsey Wilson responded moments later, converting a penalty kick to regain a 3-2 advantage.
UC continued to search for another equalizer throughout the closing minutes as Luca Piazza and Eduardo Pedroza each put shots on frame, but the Blue Raiders held on for the 3-2 final.
Cumberlands outshot Lindsey Wilson 16-15, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal, while holding a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Patriots return to action Thursday, October 1, when they travel to Campbellsville, KY to face Campbellsville University. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
