University of the Cumberlands Athletics

Serhiy Shevchenro earned athlete of the week honors after he broke the school record in the 8k.  Competing at the Southern Showcase, Shevchenro crossed the line in 24:21.80 in his first 8k race.  Just over halfway through the race he was sitting in 24th place.  The Ukraine native, made a surge over the next 1.6k splitting a 5:07.7 to move up in the field and finish 20^th in a field comprised of mostly NCAA DI and DII teams. Shevchenro's time broke Gareth Wilford previous school record of 24:23, which he set at the 1997 NCCAA Championships.
