From1998-2000, Yew Ming Si, former men's tennis player for the University of the Cumberlands (UC) (then Cumberland College), has definitely proven what hard work is all about.
Yew Ming is currently ranked number one in Malaysia and because of his hard work and dedication, he has made it to the highest level of tennis competition, the Association of Tennis Professional otherwise known as the ATP.
Since making it to this level, Si has gone 1-2 in 2010 and 5-9 for his career. This has marked the first tennis player from the University of the Cumberlands to ever make it to this high of a level. "I am so proud of his achievement on being the first to play in the ATP," said University of the Cumberlands Head Tennis Coach Chin Tan.
Some familiar names of players that have succeeded in this level of tennis are Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal.
After his freshman year at UC, Yew Ming was named a Second Team All-American in doubles. He finished his tennis career at Illinois State University.
"Si is the hardest working player that we've ever coached at Cumberlands," said Tan.
Tan has high hopes that his players will aspire to have goals such as Yew Ming's. "I hope his feat allows our players to know that they too can make it to the pros if they are willing to work hard."
