Marietta, GA – The fourth-ranked UC men's wrestling team earned another conference win over the sixth-ranked Running Eagles of Life University by a final score of 25-12 on Wednesday night. With the win, the Patriots improve to 12-1 on the year and 5-0 in conference while the Eagles fall to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the MSC.
Ranking first at 125 pounds,
Hayden Lee defeated Stephen Gordy by fall to put Cumberlands ahead early at 6-0.
Jake Sinkovics, ranked first at 133 pounds, earned a 16-1 tech fall win over Donoven Hough to push the lead to 11-0. At 141 pounds, Life snuck in a decision to make it 11-3 UC. However,
Tres Leon, ranked second at 149 pounds, earned an 18-3 tech fall win over Dimitri Alicea for the Patriots to extend the lead to 16-3.
The Running Eagles then managed to take back-to-back decisions at the 157 and 165 pound weight classes to shrink the deficit to 16-9. Ninth-ranked
Hunter Bell then recorded a 9-4 decision over Anthony Carter to bring the score to 19-9.
Cameron Jones, ranking first at 184 pounds, defeated seventh-ranked Hunter Smith in an 8-4 decision for the Patriots to go ahead 22-9. At 197 pounds, 14
th-ranked
Eric Deluse won in a 7-2 decision, pushing the lead to 25-9. The Running Eagles were able to win a close decision at 285 pounds, however Cumberlands was able to hold on for the 25-12 victory over Life.
The Patriots return to the mat on Wednesday, February 7 as to host the ninth-ranked Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson for their final MSC dual. Match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Live video will be available
