Individual Performances Lift Patriots to Pair of Top-Five Finishes

Louisville, KY- The seventh-ranked UC women's bowling team opened MSC play this past weekend, competing in both the Louisville Classic and the Thomas Burris Memorial. The Patriots placed fourth overall at the Louisville Classic on Saturday and finished second at the Thomas Burris Memorial on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Patriots line-up knocked down 6,876 pins to finish fourth of 19 teams competing at the Louisville Classic behind impressive performances from both Kiara Abanto and Sarah Doyle. Abanto tallied a team-high 980 pins over five games to finish eighth, while Doyle knocked down 975 pins to finish tenth.

On Sunday, UC earned a second-place finish in their final tournament of the weekend, notching a total count of 7,075 against 17 teams in attendance. Abanto once again paved the way for the Patriots to finish well, landing herself tournament champion honors. The rookie knocked over 1,068 pins en route to becoming only the second Patriot in program history to win a tournament. Kaitlyn Egan followed suit with a seventh-place finish, downing 1,008 pins.

Pikeville earned the crown in both tournaments over the weekend, with a score of 7,280 on Saturday and 7,082 on Sunday. In the Louisville Classic, Martin-Methodist, Campbellsville and Emmanuel rounded out the top five. At the Thomas Burris Memorial, Emmanuel, Union and Martin-Methodist finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

The Patriots will be back in action later this month when they travel to Nashville, TN for the Brandon Burns Memorial, on October 26. This tournament will count as an MSC contest.
