11/18/2019 2:39:00 PM

Bowling Green, KY - After the first competition of the season, Bridgette Duty garners her first career Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week.

On Sunday the Patriots opened up their season at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, MO. Duty went 5-1 in her 136-weight class to finish in third place. She recorded four tech falls on the day, including a 22-8 victory in the opening round. Duty's lone pin came against NAIA fifth-ranked Sydney Freund of Oklahoma City in 5:08.

After Duty fell to the consolation bracket, she battled back with two more wins, including a 12-1 tech fall over second-ranked Erica Sotelo of Life University to earn third place.

The Needville, TX native is a two-time All-American and currently ranks fourth in the NAIA. Her third place finish is her best tournament finish since she placed second in the MSC Championships her freshman year.

The Patriots return to action this weekend with their home opener. The Patriot Duals will start on Friday and continue on Saturday having both days start at 8 AM.
