Bowling Green, KY - The Mid-South Conference named UC women's wrestler Andrea Schlabach as the wrestler of the week, announced by conference officials on Monday.
The freshman has been dominant all season for the Patriots having earned the second most wins on the team with nine. Schlabach was able to pick up two of those wins this past week at the U.S. Open in Dallas, TX.
One of the wins is perhaps the biggest of her young collegiate career. The Hamilton, OH native defeated the third ranked NCAA Division III wrestler at 136, Zoe Nowicki. Schlabach, who is ranked fifth by the NAIA at 130, defeated Nowicki by tech fall, 12-1.
The second win at the U.S. Open for Schlabach came by pin fall at 4:25 which brings her season total pin fall up to five.
Schlabach joins Cynthia Pelayo and Bridgette Duty as the other UC women's wrestlers to win the award this year. Schlabach and Pelayo are also the only freshman to win the award this season.
The Patriots will return to action on January 10 for the two day NWCA National Duals in Louisville, KY.
