Winston-Salem, NC – In his first appearance donning the Patriot uniform,
Carson Johnson marched his way to an NAIA qualifying time in the race walk at Sunday's JDL January College Kick-Off.
Johnson, a rookie out of Bowling Green, KY, averaged roughly 57 seconds per lap in the 3,000-meter race walk en route to a 14:01.95 finish. The time registered as the young man's first collegiate NAIA standard met, automatically moving him on to South Dakota.
Also participating at the invitational, Lisa Voyles began 2020 with a 2:29.01 performance in the 800 meters, registering as the team's fastest time of the season. The rookie placed fifth overall in a field of 33 NCAA Division I, II and NAIA opponents.
Alisa Bowling followed close behind on the fast track, clocking 2:43.60 across the finish line.
A race later, Samantha Connelly noted 3:36.77 in the 1,000 meters, he first appearance in the distance in her career.
The Patriots track & field continues their indoor season on Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis, IN, taking on UIndy's Tom Hathaway Distance Classic.
