Foley, AL – After two days of intense competition, the UC archery team compiled 176 points, three individual national titles, five team national titles, and 15 podium finishes to win its third straight USA Archery 3D national championship Saturday afternoon. It marks the fifth time in program history that the Patriots have won the 3D national title and it is the tenth championship in program history.
Collecting individual national titles were
Sara Sherman,
Elliott Cross, and
Danielle Woodie. Sherman earned gold in the women's bowhunter division after carding a 422 and hitting 17 bonus rings. The Marysville, PA native broke the previous school record of 412 and won the event by 13 points.
Cross also set a new program record en route to capturing his first individual national title as a Patriot. The sophomore finished with a two-round total of 430 and hit 17 bonus rings to outlast 40 competitors for the gold medal in the men's bowhunter division. Cross' performance broke
Caleb Dixon record of 428 set back in 2018.
Freshman
Danielle Woodie, who entered the day atop the women's compound leaderboard, shot a 210 to put a stronghold on the top spot and claim her first national title. The Elkton, MD native posted a two-round total of 428, including 17 bonus rings.
In addition to Woodie, four other Patriots earned points in the women's compound division.
Hannah Moose and
Brooke Miller both shot a 210 in the second round to finish fifth and sixth, with scores of 420 and 416, respectfully.
Madison Grimm carded a 414 to finish one place back as
Amanda Newland placed eighth with a 412 to earn one point for the Patriots.
Woodie, Moose, and Miller teamed up to win the women's compound team national title with a score of 1264.
Madison Cox rebounded from a rough first round to shoot a 214, the best round of the day, in the women's bowhunter class. That performance propelled Cox to the third podium finish of her career as she earned the bronze medal with a 40 target score of 408.
Kaitlyn Shields tallied a 398 for a top-five finish.
Sherman, Cox, and Shields combined to shoot 1228 to earn gold in the women's team bowhunter division.
In the men's compound division, Cumberlands placed four archers in the top-eight to score points for UC.
Jase Boils,
Aaron Adams, and
Carson Sapp all finished with a two-round total of 452, however, Boils got the nod for fourth place after connecting with 29 bonus rings. Adams, who hit 28 bonus rings, finished fifth, while Sapp notched a sixth-place finish.
Logan Altizer earned a point for UC with an eight-place finish carding a 448, including 26 bonus rings.
Despite none of them podium individually, the team of Boils, Adams, and Sapp teamed up to win gold in the men's compound team division with a score of 1354.
In men's bowhunter,
Hunter Larese notched a second-round to move up three spots and earn the silver medal. Larese is now tied with Dixon for second in program history at 428.
Josh Isaacs and
Coby Hudson tallied a 396 and 389, respectfully.
Cross, Larese, and Isaacs finished with a combined 1254 to earn the silver medal in the women's bowhunter division.
The women's barebow division saw a trio of scorers for the Patriots.
Whitney Vandiver led the way with a fourth-place finish after shooting a 270.
Katie Karr posted the best round of the day, 147, leaped three spots in the individual standings to finish fifth.
Alexandra Elzy added a point for UC after finishing eighth with a score of 252.
That trio combined to score eight points and earn the silver medal in the women's barebow team division.
Miranda Lauria set a new program record, tallying a 40-target score of 385. The senior broke the previous school record by 16 points to finish fourth at the championships. Lauria also teamed with
Bailey Robinson and
Emily Cardis for a bronze medal in the women's recurve team division.
In men's recurve, UC's lone archer,
Jacob Valentini, placed eighth with a score of 367.
The Patriots final team medal came in the men's barebow division where
Bradley Faulkner,
Elijah Crawford, and
Alex Legg teamed up for a third-place finish.
UC added three more podium finishes in the mixed team division highlighted by Sherman and Cross running away with gold in the bowhunter division. Woodie and Boils added a gold in the compound division, while Lauria and Valentini shot a 752 to earn the Patriots first bronze medal in mixed recurve. Faulkner and Vandiver placed fourth in mixed barebow earning five points for UC.

Now Cumberlands will turn its attention to indoor season, which will begin competing in January 2020.
