Patriots Rocket League Squad Claims First Victory in Program History

Williamsburg, KY – Patriots esports continued its run in the NACE Skillshot Fall Rocket League tournament, facing off with McMurry University and the University of Missouri on Tuesday evening. UC split the double header, defeating McMurry 3-1 for their first match win of the season before falling 3-1 to Missouri.

Game 1 | Round 7
vs McMurry W, 3-1 (1-4, 1-0, 2-1, 3-2)

In the seventh round of the NACE Fall Rocket League tournament, UC esports faced-off with McMurry in a best of five series. The Patriots notched their best performance to date, getting the program its first series win of the season after defeating the War Hawks 3-1.

In the first match of the series, McMurry got the advantage early, scoring two goals in the first two minutes, going on to take on two more. The War Hawks held the Patriots to a lone goal scored by Jamison Gibson (skipper) and claimed their only win in the series.

Game two saw the Patriots improve, with more controlled offensive attacks and a solid defense UC held the Warhawks scoreless, claiming game two 1-0.

Jamison Gibson was the difference maker in the third game, scoring both of the Patriots goals and tacking on an impressive save. UC won game three 2-1, going up two games in the series. Game four brought the opportunity for the Patriots to secure their first series win in program history, and they did just that. Corbin Ellis (goldencourt) made a huge impact in the fourth game, recording a pair of goals, including the game winning goal in OT. The Patriots claimed their first win 3-1 in the series against McMurry.
 
Game 2 | Round 8
vs Missouri L, 3-1 (4-3, 2-3, 2-3, 2-3)

After securing the win over McMurry, UC went up against Missouri University in round eight of the NACE Fall Tournament. Faced with a highly skilled team which featured three Grand Champions, the Patriots managed a single victory but fell 3-1 in the series.

Game one was a high scoring affair, with Ellis (goldencourt) recording a trio of goals as they Patriots claimed the 4-3 victory. Game two was more defensively focused, with the game locked at 2-2 for the majority of the contest, in the final minute of the game, Mizzou made a solid arial touch to claim the 3-2 win.

Games three and four were much the same as the Patriots remained within a point, falling by a single goal as the Tigers won the series three games to one. Ellis (goldencourt) led UC in goals in the series, recording five total in the four game contest. Both Gibson (skipper) and Logan Smith (LOLO) scored a pair of goals in the series as well.

Fresh off their first win of the season, UC gears up for rounds nine and ten of the NACE Fall Rocket League Tournament next week as they are slated to take on EKU and WKU on Tuesday, October 27. Live stream coverage of the competitions can be found here.
