WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The Cumberlands Esports program put together one of its strongest stretches of the spring season, collecting wins across NECC and MSC play in Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Valorant, and Overwatch. With multiple conference matchups packed into the past two weeks, the Patriots delivered several dominant team performances and record-setting individual efforts.
Rocket League
The Patriots saw heavy action in both NECC and MSC competition. In NECC play, UC picked up a win over Kennesaw State via forfeit and followed with impressive victories over Arkansas State (4-1) and Missouri University of Science and Technology (4-0).
Aedan Poore scored seven goals in the win over Arkansas State, while
Jonathan Jackson and Caleb Biel each tallied six goals in the sweep of Missouri S&T.
UC also battled Kansas in a six-game series, falling 2-4 despite six goals and six assists from Poore. In MSC action, the Patriots swept Bethel 3-0 behind eight goals from Jackson and seven from Biel. They added another 3-0 sweep over Freed-Hardeman, with Biel and Poore combining for 11 goals across the series.
Super Smash Bros.
The Smash squad continued to shine in MSC competition with several dominant outings. Against Bethel, Ben Skatzes took all 12 stocks in game one using Kazuya, losing just two of his own, while
Gavin King answered in game two by claiming all 12 stocks with Little Mac and surrendering only one.
UC followed with another 2-0 win over Freed-Hardeman as Skatzes secured 14 total stocks across the two games. King added six stocks as Cloud, while
Joshua Stegman contributed four with Sora.
Earlier in the stretch,
Andy Sears and
Gavin King each secured 11 stocks in a three-game series against Transylvania, highlighting the depth of the Patriots' Smash lineup.
Valorant
The Patriots bounced back in MSC play with strong wins over Freed-Hardeman and St. Thomas University. In the 2-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman, Isaiah Jarzeb set an MSC team record with 51 total kills, posting 24 in game one and 27 in game two.
Jarzeb followed that performance with another standout showing against St. Thomas, finishing with a combined 58 kills, 28 deaths, and 12 assists while playing Clove and Omen in a 2-0 victory. UC also faced Cumberland in MSC action, dropping a 0-2 decision despite solid offensive production from Jarzeb and
Shane Vangraafeiland.
Overwatch
Cumberlands' Overwatch team delivered one of the most dominant performances of the stretch in a 3-0 sweep of Bethel.
Ryan Hillard led the way, totaling more than 60 eliminations across three games without suffering a single death while earning a Play of the Game on Reinhardt.
Hillard also turned in an 82-elimination, three-death performance in another MSC series earlier in the week while rotating between Reinhardt, Ramatra, and Wrecking Ball. The Patriots also faced Cumberland twice during the stretch in tough 0-3 contests, with both Hillard and
Lucas Kim leading the effort in eliminations.
