WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The Cumberlands Esports program wrapped up an impressive Mid-South Conference postseason run, highlighted by a conference championship in Super Smash Bros. and runner-up finishes in three additional titles. The Patriots showcased their depth across all games, placing in the finals of every MSC competition this season.
Super Smash Bros.
Cumberlands claimed the MSC Championship in Super Smash Bros. with a 2-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman in the finals. Ben Skatzes led the way on Kazuya, securing eight total stocks across the series, while
Andy Sears added six stocks on Meta Knight to help seal the title. With the win, the Patriots finish the MSC season as conference champions in Smash.
Overwatch
The Patriots made a strong run to the finals in Overwatch, opening the postseason with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Freed-Hardeman in the semifinals.
Ryan Hillard paced UC with a team-high 58 eliminations while anchoring the tank role. In the championship match, Cumberlands fell 0-3 to Cumberland, finishing as the MSC runner-up.
Valorant
UC continued its success in Valorant with a 2-0 semifinal win over St. Thomas University, led by
Shane Vangraafeiland who earned 40 total kills across the two games. The Patriots advanced to the finals but dropped a 0-2 decision to Cumberland, securing a second-place finish in MSC play.
Rocket League
The Patriots earned their spot in the finals with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Freed-Hardeman in the semifinals, highlighted by dominant game scores of 3-0, 2-1, and 9-0. In the championship match, UC battled Cumberland but fell 1-3, finishing as MSC runner-up in Rocket League.
Overall, Cumberlands capped the MSC season with a conference title in Super Smash Bros. and runner-up finishes in Valorant, Overwatch, and Rocket League, marking one of the program's strongest collective postseason performances.
