Madisonville, KY – The UC archery team posted 23 top ten marks, including having ten archers ranked in the top five of their respective events after the first day of competition at the USA Collegiate Indoor National Championship Friday afternoon. The championship consists of 120 total arrows with 60 being shot on day one and the final 60 being shot on day two.
The women's bowhunter division is leading the way for Cumberlands with three shooters ranked in the top four. Freshman
Madison Cox has recorded 589 points over the first two rounds to take a four-point lead into day two. The McKee, KY native posted the highest score in both rounds and lead the field with 49 10's. Teammate
Sarah Purtee is sitting in second place with 585 points after tallying 294 in the first round and 291 in the second round.
Kaitlyn Shields is in fourth in the women's bowhunter standings with 579 points, including notching 42 10's.
Michaela McDonald and
Sara Sherman are sitting in seventh and ninth, respectfully, with scores of 573 and 567.
Brooke Miller is leading the Patriots in the women's compound standings sitting in second place with a two-round score of 584. The sophomore hit 44 10's and 16 nine's over the course of day one.
Hannah Moose position herself inside the top five with a two-round total of 577 to be fourth.
Cumberlands also has a pair of top-five shooters in women's recurve as
Miranda Lauria is second with a score of 528, while
Emily Cardis shot a 460 to be in fourth.
On the men's side, it's Elliot Cross (bowhunter) and
Jacob Stidam (barebow) that are tied for the Patriots top finish as they are both sitting in third after day one. Cross shot a 291 in the first round and followed it up with 298 to finish the day at 589, while Stidam hit three 10's and 11 9's en route to a 438.
Bradley Faulkner has positioned himself one-point behind Stidam with a 437, while
Dalton Nealy notched a 348 to sit in eighth place.
UC has three other shooters in the men's bowhunter division that are ranked inside the top ten.
Caleb Dixon achieved 47 10's as part of his 587 to be in sixth, one point ahead of teammate
Hunter Larese who is tied for seventh.
Josh Isaacs is currently ninth with a day one score of 584.
In the men's compound division, senior
Aaron Adams and freshman
Clay Weaver are tied for sixth after both finishing the day at 585.
Jase Boils came out strong in the first round with a 293, however, is sitting in eighth after totaling a 578.
Tara Currie led a quartet of archers in the women's barebow division as she carded a 343 to be in sixth place. Teammate
Kimberley Wheat tallied UC's final top ten placement finishing seventh with a score of 341.
The Patriots will return to action Saturday, February 15, when they compete in the final day of shooting for the USA Collegiate Indoor National Championship. UC will remain in Madisonville on Sunday, February 16, for the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships.
