Patriots Close Out Regionals Strong; Sit Atop MSC Standings

Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots archery team tallied nine podium finishes, including three regional championships to close out the USA Outdoor Regionals Friday afternoon.  In addition to the regional success Cumberlands leads the Mid-South Conference standings after a strong showing in team rounds.

Chase White, Isabel Lehsten, and Aiden Woodie all captured regionals titles on Friday.  White captured gold in the men's barebow division after posting a 3-0 mark.  The freshman opened with back-to-back 6-0 wins to reach the finals, where he won three straight ends to defeat second-seed Kyle Coffey of Union 6-2. Teammate Zach Mathews won his first two matches en route to a fourth-place finish.

Lehsten captured the women's barebow title after compiling a 4-0 record on the day.  The freshman opened with a 6-2 win over Karaline Ratliff before knocking off Lauren Oosterbaan 6-4 in the quarterfinals.  After tallying a 6-2 win in the semifinals, Lehsten edged out Adelaide Lindner (Eastern Kentucky) in a one arrow shoot-off for the 6-5 victory.

After earning the top-seed, Woodie notched a 4-0 mark to capture his first regional title in the men's fixed pins division.  The freshman carded back-to-back 145's to reach the semifinals, where he knocked off fourth-seed Nate Harpe (Pikeville) 143-141.  In the finals Woodie defeated Gus Burtts (Lindsey Wilson) 145-132 to capture the gold medal.  Jackson Ratajczak posted a pair of wins to place fourth. 

UC had three of the top-four finishers in the women's recurve division led by a Lidia Quezada.  Quezada won her first three matches by a combined score of 18-2 before posting a runner-up finish.  Ceridwyn Salyers and Sheridan Weaver both won their first two matches before falling in the semifinals.  In the bronze medal Salyers edged out Weaver 6-2 for third place.

The Patriots had a pair of podium finishers in the women's compound division.  Savannah Hoffman, who entered as the sixth-seed knocked off Marissa Harding 145-144 and Mikayla Cassady 142-139 before earned a runner-up finish.  Lanie Nish posted a 3-1 record, including a 147-140 win over Cassady to capture third place.

In women's fixed pins, the Patriots had a pair of top-four finishers.  Teammates Ayla Mills and Hannah Summers both won their first two matches before facing each other in the third place match.  Mills tallied the 139-136 win to claim bronze.

Both Keaton Starks (men's recurve) and Zachary Neilson (men's compound) tallied fourth place finishes in their respective division. 

After the completion of team rounds, Cumberlands sits atop the standings with 100 points.  The Patriots have tallied 12 podium finishes, including capturing six conference titles. 

UC captured gold in both the compound men's team rounds and the barebow men's team rounds that were contested this afternoon.  In the compound men's division, the trio of Blaine Kostrzewski, Noah Coyle, and Neilson defeated Union 228-226 in the gold medal match.

In the finals of the men's barebow division, White teamed with Zach Matthews and Nicolas Mudd for a 6-0 win over Lindsey Wilson to capture the gold. 

In the mixed fixed pins division the duo of Woodie and Summers defeated Midway 150-135 in the semifinals before posted a national runner-up finish. 

Cumberlands captured a pair of third-place finishes during the mixed team rounds.  In the mixed recurve round, Roman Carpenter and Quezada teamed up to defeat Campbellsville 6-0 in the bronze medal match.  The tandem of Kostrzewski and Lilie Aguilar posted a 146-131 win over Pikeville to capture third in the men's compound division. 

The Patriots had 17 archers earn USA All-Region honors, which was based on the archers score from USA Indoor Nationals and USA Outdoor Regionals. Earning the honors for the second straight season are Ceridwyn Salyers, Blaine Kostrzewski, Marissa Harding, Lilie Aguilar, Lauren Oosterbaan, Jackson Ratajczak, Hannah Summers, and Ayla Mills.  Joining that group on the All-Region team are Lidia Quezada, Alina Distelberg, Lanie Nish, Chase White, Isabell Lehsten, Erin Heyob, Aiden Woodie, Joseph West, and Anslee Roberson.

The Patriots will return to the range Saturday, April 11th for the final day of the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Archery Championships.  Head-to-head eliminations will begin at 8 a.m. with live results available here.
