Box Score 2 Williamsburg, KY – 11th-ranked
Patriots baseball wrapped up day one of its 2020 home debut on Saturday, picking up a pair of wins against Siena Heights and Midway. UC won handedly in both contests, defeating the Saints 10-3 before winning 7-1 over the Eagles. The wins improve the Patriots to 6-0 on the season.
Game One – Siena Heights
The Patriots offense got active immediately in game one, scoring five runs in the first inning on three hits and an error.
Pedro Nazario,
Candido Encarnacion, and
Andres Rolon all singled in the first frame as the Patriots went up 5-0. In the bottom of the fourth,
Austin Madry reached on a walk before
Andres Rolon connected again, this time crushing a double down the right field line.
Andres Rolon would later score on a
Kevin Rolon RBI single to center field while Madry crossed the plate after a groundout to extend the Patriots lead to 7-0 after four complete.
The Patriots last three runs would come by way of a Madry three-run homer in the fifth frame that scored
Alex Dominguez and Encarnacion. Sienna Heights put a run across in the top of the sixth before scoring two in the seventh as the Patriots would go on to secure the 10-3 victory.
Colton Easterwood got the call on the bump for the Patriots in game one, picking up the win after going six innings allowing five hits and notching eight strikeouts.
Madry went 1-3 with four RBI's thanks in part to a three-run home run.
Andres Rolon swung out a double on his way to finish 2-3 on the day. Dominguez went 2-2 while scoring a pair of runs.
Game Two – Midway
Bryan Leef jumpstarted the Patriots offense in game two, as the senior slugged out a solo shot to left to put UC up 1-0 after the first frame. In the bottom of the second, Encarnacion fired a double to right field before
Rolando Rodriguez managed a single to right. Encarnacion would score on a fielders choice before
Rhett Gipe sent a two run homer over the left field fence, scoring
Andres Rolon as the Patriots ended the second inning up 4-0.
Pedro Nazario opened the third frame with a solo blast to center field. Leef then singled to left before later scoring on an RBI double off the bat of Rodriguez. Leef crushed his second home run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, extending the Patriots lead to 7-0. Midway managed just one run in the top of the sixth as the Patriots defeated the Eagles 7-1.
Corey Linz went five innings, picking up the win on the mound after allowing just one hit and striking out five.
Rollin Layton got the call in relief, going two innings allowing one run on one hit.
The Patriots return to the diamond tomorrow, Sunday, February 16
th as they wrap up the weekend series with a double-header against Sienna Heights. First pitch from Doyle Buhl Stadium is slated for 12 PM.
