Williamsburg, KY – Former University of the Cumberlands baseball standout Charlie Muniz is taking the next step in his professional career after the San Francisco Giants officially purchased his contract from the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. Muniz will report to the Giants' High-A affiliate, the Eugene Emeralds.

Muniz joins the Giants organization following a standout 2026 season with Billings, where he established himself as one of the top power hitters in the Pioneer League. In 85 games, the catcher hit .361 with 127 hits, 98 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples, 27 home runs and 106 RBIs. He also posted a .470 on-base percentage and .656 slugging percentage for a 1.126 OPS.

His 27 home runs set the Mustangs' modern-day single-season franchise record, while his 106 RBIs ranked among the Pioneer League leaders. Muniz also made an impact defensively behind the plate, throwing out 19 potential base stealers during the season.

Prior to beginning his professional career, Muniz put together one of the most decorated careers in Cumberlands baseball history. From 2022-25, the Naranjito, Puerto Rico native played in 238 games, compiling a .415 career batting average with 377 hits, 75 doubles, 115 home runs and 336 RBIs.

Muniz capped his Patriot career with a dominant 2025 campaign, batting .426 with 100 hits, 18 doubles, 36 home runs and 96 RBIs while posting a .516 on-base percentage and .970 slugging percentage. His performance earned him NAIA Player of the Year honors along with First Team All-American recognition.

The catcher finished his career as a NAIA National Player of the Year, a four-time NAIA First Team All-American, two-time Mid-South Conference Player of the Year, and four-time MSC First Team All-Conference selection. He also left Williamsburg holding several program records, including career hits, home runs, and RBIs.

Muniz now continues his professional journey with Eugene as he makes the jump from independent professional baseball into the San Francisco Giants organization.
