Box Score 2 Williamsburg, KY – The 11th-ranked Patriots baseball team extended their win streak to eight on Sunday afternoon, completing the sweep of Siena Heights with a pair of wins. UC stays perfect in 2020, winning game one 2-1 via a
Ray Villanueva walk-off before pulling through in the final inning of game two to win 3-2 . UC improves its overall record to 8-0 with Sunday's wins.
Game One
Game one remained scoreless through the first four innings with UC managing a trio of hits via a
Pedro Nazario double in the first, a base-hit bunt by
Britton Elmore in the second, and a Villanueva double in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Siena heights struck first via an RBI single by Jarrett Cousino that put the Saints up 1-0.
The Patriots scored the tying run in the sixth as Villaneuva reached on a walk, eventually scoring on a
Kevin Rolon sacrifice fly to right. In the bottom of the seventh,
Bryan Leef and
Candido Encarnacion reached on walks before Villanueva came to the plate with two outs. With a 1-2 count, Villanueva crushed walk-off double to left-center, scoring Leef and securing the 2-1 win for UC.
Nathan Geissler got the start in game one, going six innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven.
Jacob Ayala would pick up the win after pitching one inning of relief, not allowing a single hit and striking out one.
Villanueva went 2-3 in his debut as a Patriot, slugging two doubles and reaching on a walk. Elmore fired two singles to go 2-3 in the contest.
Game Two
Game two saw just one hit for both teams through the first two frames, as Leef singled through the hole in the bottom of the first. The Patriots put their first run across in the bottom of the third as
Kevin Rolon blasted a solo home run to left on a 2-2 count to put UC up 1-0. Siena Heights tied the game in the top of the fourth by way of Parker Mabe, who scored on Trever Hulvey's ground ball.
The Patriots reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth as
Alex Dominguez opened the frame with a double to left, later scored by a
Rhett Gipe RBI double off the wall.
Kevin Rolon reached on a walk in the fifth, stealing second before being scored by a Villanueva triple to right field to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead. Hulvey managed an RBI single in the top of the sixth to bring the Saints within one heading into the final frame. In the top of the seventh, the Saints loaded the bases via two walks and an error, bringing Bryan Jaurez to the mound for UC. The Patriots forced out the lead runner at the plate on a ground ball before Jaurez struck out the final batter, securing the 3-2 win for the Patriots.
Walter Hernandez picks up the win for UC, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight in his five-inning performance. Marcus Cuenca made his debut in the top of the sixth, throwing for an inning and third giving up one hit. Ryan Juarez finished on the mound, throwing for two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.
Six Patriots finished with a hit in game two, including
Kevin Rolon with a solo home run and Villanueva with an RBI triple.
The Patriots have a quick turnaround, facing off with Milligan on Monday, February 17
th in a double-header at home. First pitch against the Buffaloes is scheduled for 2 PM at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
