Baseball Continues Historic Win Streak in Saturday Sweep of Saint Francis

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Williamsburg, KY – Patriots baseball remained unbeaten on Saturday, claiming a pair of wins against the Cougars of Saint Francis to improve to 12-0 on the season. Game one was a pitching duel, featuring a seven-inning complete game shut-out from Colton Easterwood and a walk-off single from Rolando Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh that secured the 1-0 win. Game two saw more offensive firepower as the Patriots scored six runs on five hits, ultimately defeating the Cougars 6-3.

Game One

The Patriots offense started slowly in game one, getting just one hit throughout the first six innings by way of a Pedro Nazario single to right center. Saint Francis notched their first hit in the top of the third but would remain silent offensively the remainder of the contest.

Alex Dominguez opened the bottom of the seventh frame, blasting a single to right field to spark the Patriots offense. Noah Davis game in to pinch run and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Candido Encarnacion. Finally, Rolando Rodriguez ripped a single down the left field line, scoring Davis for the 1-0 walk-off victory.
Colton Easterwood went the distance for UC, throwing a seven-inning shutout, allowing just two hits and notching eight strikeouts.

Game Two
The Patriots took advantage of pitching struggles from Saint Francis in the opening frame, scoring five runs on just one hit. First, Bryan Leef bunted out a base hit down the third base line before the Patriots put seven runners on via five walks, and two hit-by-pitches as they headed into the second frame leading 5-0. Kevin Rolon also crushed a double to left in the bottom of the third frame for the Patriots second hit of the contest.

UC tallied a pair of hits in the bottom of the sixth inning as Pedro Nazario earned his second hit of the day before Leef reached on a walk. Dominguez flared an RBI single up the middle, scoring Nazario as the Patriots went on to win by a final score of 6-3.

Nathan Geissler went five innings, getting the win, allowing a single run on five hits, seven strikeouts and two walks. Jacob Ayala earns the save after going one and a third innings, holding the Cougars to just one hit.

Patriots baseball returns to action on Sunday, February 23 as they complete the four-game series with Saint Francis in a double-header. First pitch from Doyle Buhl Stadium is slated for 1 PM.
