Grandperrin Leads Patriots at Camel City with A-Cut

Winston-Salem, NC – Punching his first ticket to the NAIA Championships of his senior season, Nicolas Grandperrin led Patriot performances against NAIA and NCAA competitors at JDL's Camel City Invite this weekend.
 
Grandperrin garnered the A-standard in the 3,000 meters, his second time doing so in his career. The senior clocked 8:41.13 for 20th in the 15-lap affair, a 23-second drop since opening his final season back in December. He is now ranked 12th in the NAIA for the event.
 
Jarrett Forrest and Kyle Woodward followed their teammate in the 3,000, clocking 9:29.15 and 9:46.46 respectively.
 
Over 500 miles away in New York City, Carson Johnson walked his way to eighth place at the elite Millrose Games. The rookie paced 7:22.06 in the mile-long racewalk at The Armory.
 
Back in North Carolina, Simeon Coleman was a half-second shy of another championship qualifying time of his sophomore season, this week coming in the 800 meters. By almost three seconds, the Florida-man recorded his fastest indoor 800 at 1:57.31, less than a half second off a B-standard.
 
Improving by two seconds for a new best, Miguel Reis hit 50.57 seconds across the stripe in the 400 meters. He made his way to the podium in seventh place overall ahead of NCAA Division I athletes, while only a half-second away from a qualifying time. Following his teammate, DeMarquez Brown timed 53.90 in his collegiate debut.
 
Three-tenths off a standard, Leonardo Daley moved quickly down the 60-meter straight even with hurdles in his path. The rookie placed 23rd overall with the 8.79-second finish.
 
Dedarius Evans-Busby had a career day in both events appeared in, collecting season bests across the board. The freshman noted a fifth-place finish in the qualifying 60's at 7.14 seconds. In the 200, he walked off the track with a 23.32-second best, a .14 second improvement.
 
It was Matthew Chavers though who led the Patriot sprinting line-up. In the 60 prelims, he placed 20th against elite competition with a time of 7.12. In the 200, Chavers made it around the flat lap in 23.26 seconds.
 
Devonte Miles clocked 7.34 seconds in his first 60-meter race of his sophomore season.
 
Justin Moore had a career day in the weight throw cage, charting a new personal best of 14-meters even en route to a top-20 finish. He went on to toss 11.25 meters in the shot put pit.
 
Jacob Washburn led the Patriots in weight throw, marking 15.58 meters out of the ring for 11th. Brandon Boyce, meanwhile, chalked 11.63 meters.
 
The Patriots gear up ahead of the MSC Indoor Track & Field Championships in two weeks' time. The meet will be held at Defiance College in Ohio on February 21 and 22.
