Patriots Go 2-1 in Conference Debut; Claim Third Straight Road Series Against Campbellsville

Box Score Campbellsville, KY – 11th ranked Patriots baseball dropped the final game of its three-game series against No. 25 Campbellsville on Sunday as the Tigers surged late to claim the 15-5 win. The Patriots wrap up the series with a 2-1 advantage after shutting out the Tigers in Saturday's double-header.

Game three's loss drops the Patriots to 19-2 overall with a conference mark of 2-1 while the Tigers improve to 12-8, 1-2 in conference play.

Pedro Nazario paced the Patriots in Sunday's matchup, going 2-2 and reaching twice on walks. Nazario got his first hit of the game in the top of the first off a single to left but would be left on.

The bats picked up for UC in the second inning as they managed a pair of runs on two hits. Alex Dominguez reached on a walk to lead things off, setting Austin Madry up for an RBI opportunity in which he cranked a two run home run. Campbellsville answered in the bottom of the frame, swinging for a hit and taking advantage of two UC errors to hang four runs, making it 4-2.

The Patriots returned fire in the top of the third, led off by a walk from Nazario who scored on Bryan Leef's single in the next at-bat. Leef stole second and reached third on an error before being scored by a sacrifice grounder from Rolando Rodriguez. The Tigers answered with a hit and a run in the bottom of the third to maintain a one run lead as they headed into the fourth up 5-4.

UC went were stifled offensively for four innings, only managing one hit through the seventh inning as the Tigers put up four in the same span to lead 9-4. The eighth inning saw the Tigers blow it open, making contact for five hits, walking three and scoring seven runs to take a 16-5 lead and claim the win.

The Patriots leaned on the bullpen in Sunday's effort, throwing four different arms in relief after Koby Silvy wrapped up his three and a third inning start in which he allowed six runs on five hits, striking out three. After picking up the loss, Silvy moves to 1-1 on the season.

After day ones' dominating performance, the Patriots have claimed three straight road series against the Tigers, winning six of the last nine regular season matchups.  

UC baseball will make the trip to Georgia for spring break to prepare for a four-game stint that includes matchups with Lourdes, (5) Georgia Gwinnett, (9) Indiana Tech, and (RV) Reinhardt.
