Williamsburg, KY – Coming off another successful season, which included a USA Archery 3D National Championship and a pair of national archers of the years, Head Coach
Kris Strebeck has announced the its 2020 recruiting class. The Patriots welcome ten new faces to Williamsburg this fall including eight freshman and two transfers.
Tanner Barker,
Elijah Crawford,
Alexandra Elzy,
Matthew England,
Coby Hudson,
Katie Karr,
Mason Manning,
Bailey Robinson,
Carson Sapp, and
Danielle Woodie will be donning the red and navy starting in 2020. This recruiting class will help in UC's quest to capture their third Mid-South Conference title and another championship run at the national level.
"We are really excited about this recruiting class as it brings versatility and depth that will pair nicely our formidable group of returners," said Coach Strebeck. "We are excited to have them get to campus and start practicing and competing in the coming weeks."
Two shooters that are looking to make an immediate impact for the Patriots are the two transfers, Sapp and Karr. As a Cairo, GA native, Sapp is a transfer from Mount Marty College. There he was a two-time collegiate All-American, a five-time member of the USA Archery Team. Sapp has earned both a gold and silver medal at the World Cup and is the current indoor USA Record Holder in the compound event. He is looking to major in Business Administration at UC.
Karr is a barebow shooter that transferred to UC from Pikeville. Karr is coming off a record-breaking season last season where she broke the USA Archery Collegiate indoor national record for barebow. She won the USA Archery regional competition and earned a pair of gold medals at the MSC Indoor Championships. Karr was also named the USA Archery Female Barebow All-Around Archer of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
Barker is a compound archer from Lebanon, KY, where he graduated from Marion County High School. Tanner was a member of the Green River Archery Club, where he posted consecutive runner-up finishes at the S3DA Outdoor Target and a runner-up finish at the ASA High School Open. In 2017, Barker finished second in the S3DA National Shooter of the Year competition and added a third place finish at S3DA 3D championship. At Marian County HS he was heavily involved in 4-H, Future Farmer of America, and served as a volunteer archery coach. Barker is looking to pursue his degree in Elementary Education at Cumberlands.
Woodie is a compound archer from Elkton, MD where she graduated from Bohemia Manor High School. There she was a member of the Lancaster JOAD archery club. Woodie has won the S3DA Outdoor Nationals in 2018 and the USA Texas Shootout in 2019. She finished second at the 2019 US Outdoor Target Nationals and was an alternate for the junior World Trials. The Elton, MD native was also a member of the 2020 USAT Team. Woodie is looking to double major in Criminal Justice and Exercise Sport Science.
England, Hudson, and Manning will all be competing in the bowhunter division this year for the Patriots. England, a Canmer, KY native is looking to major in Cyber Security with a minor in Information Technology while at UC.
Hudson is Fruita Monument High graduate from Fruita, CO. There he competed in archery placing eighth at Colorado State Archery Championships and was a national qualifier. In addition to those finishes Hudson also placed second at the S3DA Vegas Competition.
Manning is a local standout that competed and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Mason was a member of Impact Archery where was a three-time national champion. In 2018, Manning was named the S3DA National Shooter of the Year. He followed that up in 2019 by winning the S3DA KY State 3D championships.
Robinson is a recurve shooter from Harrodsburg, KY where she graduated from Mercer County High School.
Crawford is a Somerset High School alum that will be shooting traditional for Patriots. The Science Hill, KY native qualified for states last season and finished first in the high school boys division at local tournaments overs the past year. Crawford is looking to major in Information Technology at UC.
Wrapping up this year's class is
Alexandra Elzy, a traditional shooter, from Louisville, KY. Elzy competed at Atherton High School, where she was a four-year state qualifier and recorded a personal best score of 287. Elzy is looking to major in Business at UC.
The Patriots are slated to open their 2020 season on Friday, October 2, at the 3D Regionals in Barbourville, KY. UC will host the MSC 3D Championship on Saturday, October 3, at the UC All-Purpose Field.
