Madisonville, KY – In a day that saw 18 top-ten finishes from the compound, barebow, and recurving qualifying rounds plus strong performances during the mixed team rounds the Patriots are in primed position ahead of the final day of the MSC Indoor Championships. Cumberlands earned the top-seed in five divisions for the MSC Championship.
UC opened the day taking four of the top five qualifying spots in the men's compound division.
Aaron Adams and
Carson Sapp led the way for the Patriots as they both carded a 587 to finish tied for second place. Adams won a one-arrow shootoff to be the second-seed in tomorrow's MSC Championship. Right behind them was another Patriot duo as
Jase Boils and
Tanner Barker carded a 583 with 17 10's to finished tied for fourth place. Boils won the shoot-off and will be the fourth seed in men's compound division.
Clay Weaver edged out
Gavin Martinez for the 11
th-seed after both archers tallied a 574 with 34 10's.
On the women's side, all five Patriot archers placed in the top-12 led by
Brooke Miller. Miller notched a 577 and hit 37 10's to place fourth, while teammate
Hannah Moose finished tied for fifth one point back. Sophomore
Amanda Newland scored a 572 to place ninth, while
Danielle Woodie and
Madison Grimm finished 11
th and 12
th, with scores of 569 and 568, respectfully.
The Patriots had two archers,
Miranda Lauria and
Katie Karr, that posted the best score in their division. Lauria hit 15 10's and 26 9's en route to scoring a 530 to win the women's recurve division by 10 points. Karr, who is a defending USA Archery All-American, scored a 472 with 5 10's and 20 9's to take top honors in the women's barebow division. The junior won the event by 34 points.
Jacob Valentini,
Elijah Crawford, and
Emily Cardis all notched podium finishes during the qualifying rounds. Valentini, who is in his first year as a recurve shooter, posted a second place finish with a score of 543. Crawford also notched a runner-up finish in the men's barebow division, shooting a 450, while Cardis tallied a third place finish in women's recurve after tallying a 500.
The MSC Indoor Championship kicked off tonight with the mixed teams rounds. UC earned 26 points to be in second place behind a pair of silver medals. Lauria and Valentini earned a silver in the mixed recurve, while Crawford and Kimberly Wheat teamed up to earn silver in the mixed barebow division.
The Patriots will return to range tomorrow for the final day of competition of MSC Indoor Championships. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
