Patriots Fall In Tough Task to Tufts

10/17/2021 5:30:00 PM

Williamsburg, KY - It was a quiet several days for the Patriots on the sticks as they competed in just one match on the week. Their one contest came on Monday (Oct. 11) so UC heads into the new week refreshed and ready to back to action. They received a bye in MSC League of Legends play Monday before having their Tuesday contest with Barton College resulting in a forfeit in the Patriots favor.

Rocket League

UC was matched up against Tufts University (Ma.) in NACE Rocket League play on Monday with the Jumbos getting the better of that contest. Game one of the matchup started in UC's favor as Ellis Courtland (Goldencourt9 ^-^) found the back of the net just 30 seconds in. That one goal did not hold up, though, as Tufts scored five unanswered goals to make it a comfortable lead. The Patriots did manage to score once more thanks to Courtland's second goal of the game, but it was too little, too late as UC dropped the first game 5-2.

Game number two of the affair ended up being a tight one as the two teams were tied heading into the final minute and a half of action. Things did not stay that way for long, though, as the Junbos score twice in a span of 35 seconds to help them inch closer to the sweep.

The brooms came out in the final game as the Patriots fell 4-3. Like game number two, this was a tight contest as extra time was needed to decide the winner. The Patriots hung with Tufts more and more with each passing game and was even able to take the momentum, and the lead, late in the third game as it became a 3-2 contest in UC's favor with just 1:00 showing on the clock after Jackson Moore (oqya.) scored.

Unfortunately, that lead dissipated in the waning seconds as the Jumbos tied things up with just 20 seconds left on the clock. Tufts used the momentum from their final regulation goal to help propel them to the win as they seemed to be more in sync after knotting things up at three. After just seven seconds had passed in the overtime period, the Jumbos found the back of the net and secured the win.

UC esports will get back into the swing of things after having nearly a week off as they have a double header on tap for Monday, October 17th, competing in both NACE Rocket League and MSC League of Legends.
