UC Has Five Wrestlers in the Top-10 for #8 Overall Ranking

Kansas City, MO – Despite increasing their top-ten wrestlers in their respective weight classes from four to five, the UC women's wrestling team dropped to #8 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll. The Patriots earned 91 points in the second poll of the season with eight wrestlers in the top-20.

The highest individual ranking for the Patriots belongs to Jesse Kirby, now #3 at the 191-weight class. Kirby is coming off back-to-back Mid-South Conference wrestler of the week awards. She is currently riding a 13-match win streak to help give her a 21-4 record on the season. This marks the junior's second 20+ win season of her career. Right behind her at #5 in the 191-weight class is MaQuoia Bernabe who has yet to compete this season.

Aliyah Yates holds her #4 ranking in the 136-weight class for a second straight poll. She has boasted a 5-2 record so far this season, with three of them coming from tech falls once of which came over #3 Jordan Suarez from Wayland Baptist, that Yates blanked 10-0.

Jumping into the top-ten for the first time this season is Alexis Medina at #9 for the 116-weight class. She has compiled a 12-5 season record including four falls. The Covina, CA native has one top-three finish from the Falcon Invite this season.

Chamira Cooper who is the only two-time individual champion for the Patriots this season is ranked #10 for the 170-weight class. She has a 17-2 record on the year including 10 fall victories. The sophomore is currently on a ten-match win streak. Also ranked in the 170-weight class is Ariana Pereira who stays at #12. She has a third-place finish from the Falcon Invite to her name with a 3-1 overall record.

At #16 for the 155-weight class is senior Kailee Godinez. She has a 12-8 record with five fall victories. Staying within the top-20 of their weight class is Jaine Stephens at #17 for the 109-weight class. She has an 8-7 record with six falls recorded.

For the Mid-South Conference, Life (#2), Campbellsville (#4) and Indiana Tech (#7) all rank ahead of #8 Cumberlands. Meanwhile Brewton-Parker enters the poll at #20 with Lourdes receiving votes.

UC will have a three week break before their next competition. They will take part in the two-day NWCA National Duals in Louisville, KY starting January 6.
