Bowling Green, KY – After posting a perfect 7-0 record from the Patriot Duals earned
Jesse Kirby, Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week honors.
The Patriot Duals brought in some of the best teams in the country from NAIA and NCAA teams and Kirby proved herself among the elite. Across the entire field the Culpeper, VA native was tied for the most pins with five and was third for most pins fewest time at 5:36.
She did not give up any points in the matches, dominating her competition in every bout. She had one ranked win when UC faced #5 Emmanuel (NWCA NCAA Rankings). The junior defeated #3 Cristina Santoyo with a 56 second fall to help the team win 35-9. Kirby rattled off two more falls on day one at 43 seconds and 1:27.
On day two of the tournament Kirby picked up right where she left off winning by pin at 1:06 and 1:24. In the team's final dual of the tournament, the score was 19-18 in favor of UC. Kirby wrestled in the 191-match, the final bout of the dual, needing to win to give UC the overall victory. She had five, two-point takedowns and then ensured the win by flipping her opponent on her back for the fall win.
With all five of those pins and two more wins via forfeit, Kirby never spent more than 1:27 on the mat for a single bout.
This marks the first MSC Wrestler of the Week honor for Kirby and the second of the season for the Patriots.
Chamira Cooper won the first of the season back on November 8 and UC is the first team two earn the award twice this season.
Cumberlands will return to the mats on Saturday, December 11 to Fort Wayne, IN. They will compete in the Warrior Open hosted by Indiana Tech. The tournament will start at 8 AM with live stats found
