Cumberlands Prepares for 2021 Season

8/10/2021 8:50:00 AM

Williamsburg, KY – After having the program's most successful season to date, the UC men's soccer team looks ahead to the 2021 campaign. The upcoming schedule has 16 contests highlighted by five opponents who finished in the top-25 NAIA Postseason Coaches' Poll.

A shortened offseason to just over three months has the Patriots open their season in Athens, TN against Tennessee Wesleyan on August 28. Cumberlands will then host the remainder of their non-conference games at the UC Soccer Complex.

An opponent UC is very familiar with, having faced them twice a year ago, Indiana Tech, will play the Patriots once again, on September 5 at 2 PM. The teams split last year, but Cumberlands won the latest matchup 2-0 to send them to the NAIA Final Site. Just three days later and UC will welcome Union College from nearby Barbourville, KY. The Bulldogs took last season off, but put up a strong fight against UC back in 2019, falling just 2-0.

The Patriots will close out their non-conference schedule against a pair of teams who made the NAIA Tournament last year. West Virginia Tech and Dalton State College both fell in their first contests of the NAIA Opening Round and will be tough games before UC goes into Mid-South Conference play. Fans can see the Patriots face the Golden Bears on September 12 and the Roadrunners on September 18, both games in Williamsburg, KY.

Cumberlands will look to start MSC action with a win, like they did in 2020. Their opponent is Cumberland U on September 21 in Lebanon, TN. The Patriots will stay in the Volunteer State for their game four days later at Tennessee Southern. Then, UC will return home to close out the month of September against Campbellsville on the 28th, one of just two MSC teams to defeat Cumberlands a season ago.

Last season, UC faced Lindsey Wilson three times and earned a 2-0-1 record against the Blue Raiders including wins in the MSC Tournament and NAIA Tournament. Lindsey Wilson will travel to Williamsburg, KY on October 2 for one of the top matches of the season in the conference.

UC will once again have a pair of road games back-to-back in Tennessee, this time taking on Freed-Hardeman and Bethel (TN). With just two days between matches starting on October 7, Cumebrlands will be highly tested in those games especially since Bethel won the MSC Regular Season Title last year.

The rest of October is jammed back with games as well, playing five games in the final two weeks. Both Pikeville (October 12) and Shawnee State (October 15) will play at the UC Soccer Complex before Cumberlands heads to Georgetown, KY to face the Tigers on October 20.

The final regular season home game will be against the Thomas More Saints on October 23 and the Cumberlands will finish their schedule against Life University on October 29.

The Mid-South Conference Tournament will begin the first week of November with a birth to the NAIA tournament up for grabs. The complete UC men's soccer 2021 schedule can be found here. All home games will have live video which can be found here.
