First Career #1 Ranking for Yates Puts UC at the #8 Spot

NAIA Coaches' Poll- 4

Kansas City, MO – As a team the Patriots total eight wrestlers ranked in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll. This gives Cumberlands, the #8 ranking with 92 points, tying them with Missouri Baptist and Wayland Baptist.

Aliyah Yates leads the way for UC, earning her first career #1 ranking in a Patriot uniform. She has the top spot in the 136-weight class after being #2 in the last poll back on December 30. On the season, Yates bolsters a 6-2 record with two second place finishes at open tournaments.

Remaining in the top-five of her weight-class for the third time in a row is Jesse Kirby, coming in at #5 for the 191-weight class. Kirby is having a record setting year already amassing a 25-5 overall record, marking her second season with at least 25 wins. She leads the team in falls, notching 19, which has propelled her to one tournament win so far.

Moving up is Chamira Cooper in the 170-weight class to the #7 spot. Her 22-2 record is highlighted by a perfect 12-0 duals record on the season. Cooper has also won two individual titles this season. Ariana Pereira holds her 14th ranking in the 170-weight class with a trio of wins including a top-three tournament individual finish.

Jumping back into the polls is Elizabeth Dosado at #8 for the 101 pounders. She is riding a four-match win streak to give her an 11-11 record. Also, in the 101-weight class is Angelina Castaneda at #17.

Alexis Medina moves into the #9 in the 116-weight class, up one spot from the last poll. She holds a 16-6 record on the season, including a current four match win streak.

Staying at her #15 ranking is Jaine Stephens in the 109-weight class. She has double digit wins for an 11-6 record on the season.

Five Mid-South Conference teams are in the latest poll with Life at #1 and Campbellsville at #4. Cumberlands is the third highest. Indiana Tech comes in at #15 followed by Brewton-Parker at #19.

The Patriots have their toughest task coming up next week when they host both Life and Campbellsville in a tri-dual on February 3. The first dual will feature Cumberlands vs Life starting at 5PM with live video found here.
