Bowling Green, KY - The first week of action in 2022 ended on a high note for Martin Barbier and the Patriots as the senior was named the MSC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the Mid-South on Monday. Barbier comes off a solid week of action, winning the award for the eighth time in his career.
Barbier began his weekend run in the NAIA National Indoor Invitational hot, defeating #15 Grace at #1 doubles and #1 singles. Barbier paired up with Eric Banoub in doubles, winning handedly against Fabricio Galvan and Ramiro Candia 6-2. In singles, Barbier matched up with David Sandi and came out with the win in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 to give him his fourth straight win on the year. He then battled to a 6-0, 6-5 lead over #9 Union's Sergio Lizzaraga before the match was called unfinished to round out his solid play.

Martin has started the new campaign off strong as he is 8-3 on the season overall. The #35-ranked singles player is 4-1 in singles play on the season with a 4-2 mark alongside Eric Banoub at #1 doubles. The reigning Mid-South Player of the Year has matched up with two ranked opponents in singles play so far on the year, including a defeat of #12 Jan Silhavy of Lindsey Wilson 6-1, 3-6, 12-10 in the MSC Fall Invite. In doubles, Barbier is 1-0 against ranked opponents with a 6-2 win over Lindsey Wilson's #22 Steven Espinoza and Nicolas Torrealba Garcia in the fall.
Barbier and the Patriots will have some time off before their next match with the team set to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene University on February 11th.
