Williamsburg, KY – Coming of consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament, the 24
th-ranked UC women's basketball team has announced its 2022-23 scheduled Tuesday morning. This year's Patriots schedule features 28 games, 22 of which come against Mid-South Conference opponents. 16 of Cumberlands 28 games will come against teams that advanced to the 2022 NAIA National Tournament, including nine of them at home.
Cumberlands will open the season taken part in back-to-back classes as they travel to Beckley, WV to be in the West Virginia Tech Class where face Bluefield and Voorhees. The following week UC will host its Patriots Classic as they take on Simmons (Nov. 3) and Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (Nov. 4). The Patriots will host national qualifier IU East on November as they look to avenge on of their losses from a year ago.
"This is one of our strongest schedules in recent years especially since we play some of the top conference opponents during the first half of the season," said Coach Reeves. "This will give our newcomers a chance to get experience against top-level competition."
UC opens conference play on November 17 against the defending NAIA National Champions Thomas More. Two days later, Cumberlands will host conference newcomer Wilberforce, before traveling up I75 to take on Georgetown on Nov. 22.
"The Mid-South Conference is one of the toughest conference in the country and we have to be ready to competed everyday to be successful," said Coach Reeves
The Patriots open December with six conference games, four of which are on the road. The Patriots start the month at Pikeville before hosting Shawnee State on December 3
rd. UC will also host Lindsey Wilson on December 10, as they square off with Campbellsville (Dec. 8), UT Southern (Dec. 15), and Cumberland (Dec. 17) all on the road. After the holidays break Cumberlands faces the reigning AAC champion Bryan on December 30 in UC final non-conference game of the season.
The Patriots start 2023 with consecutive home games against Freed-Hardeman and Bethel in the first week of January and will close out the month traveling to face the Wildcats (Jan. 26) and the Lions (Jan. 28). UC also host Pikeville and Thomas More on back-to-back Saturdays (Jan. 14 & 21), while traveling to Shawnee State (Jan. 12) and Wilberforce (Jan. 19).
Cumberlands will close out their regular season with five games in February, four of which are at home. The Patriots open the month with Georgetown on February 4, before hosting Cumberland and UT Southern the following week. UC will travel to Columbia, KY to take on Lindsey Wilson before closing out the season with Campbellsville on February 18.
The Mid-South Conference will take place the following week with the top-four seeds earning a first round bye, while the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship game will all be played in Bowling Green, KY.
