Bowling Green, KY – In his Patriot debut, safety
Cam Jones made an immediate impact on the field for Cumberlands as his performance earned him Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors, announced by the conference office Monday. Jones played a critical role in UC's 10-6 homecoming win over Cumberland.
Jones finished the game with two blocks on special teams to go along with a pair of solo tackles on defense. Leading 7-0 at the start of the second quarter, the Phoenix looked to get on the board with a 37-yard field goal attempt. The Fort Worth, TX native came around the right side of the line and laid out to block the kick and earned the recovery to keep Cumberland off the board.
Later in the quarter after Cumberland scored a touchdown to make it 7-6, Jones struck again. This time he came unblocked off the left side of the line and blocked the extra point, which was recovered by UC to keep Cumberlands in front. The Phoenix missed two more field tries in the game in part to the pressure that Jones and the rest of the Patriots line was applying.
It marks Jones first MSC Player of the Week honor as he join
Harlin Brown as the two Patriots who have earned this distinction so far this season.
Cumberlands will return to the field Saturdsay, October 8, when they travel to McKenzie, TN to face #13 Bethel. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. EST with live video available
