Williamsburg, KY – The UC men's soccer team has put up another impressive season, and the 2022 campaign is not over yet. The Patriots are gearing up to make another postseason run in the NAIA Tournament. The team received an at-large bid in the Dalton Bracket.
2022 Season
Cumberlands has posted a 10-4-4 record so far, marking the fourth straight season they have recorded double digit wins, all under Head Coach
Chris LeFevre. UC remained one of the top teams in the Mid-South Conference all season long with a 6-2-2 conference record. They were the highest ranked team all season, finishing ranked #24 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.
The Pats racked up the most MSC Player of the Week awards by any team in the Mid-South, claiming six.
Pablo Vazquez led every player, talking home four, with three of them coming in consecutive weeks from September 26-October 10.
Stephen Appiah and
Rodrigo Riveros also earned player of the week accolades during the season.
UC was rewarded for their efforts all season long, placing seven on MSC All-Conference, tied for the most in the conference. Vazquez earned the MSC Player of the Year Award, just the third Patriot to ever do so. He also was named First Team along with Appiah, Riveros and
Tommaso Ogliari. On Second Team, UC had
Bruno Garcia,
Storm Hollensted and
Shuma Sasaki.
As a team, the Patriots outscored their opponents 30-11 with eight shutouts. The squad's 0.60 goals against average is one of the best in the NAIA, ranking them ninth in the country.
Postseason Play
For the fourth straight season, UC qualified for the NAIA Tournament, heading to Dalton, Ga for the First Round. The team is facing a familiar foe in Indiana Tech. The two squads are facing off for the fourth time in three seasons. In the 2020 season, the Patriots traveled to Fort Wayne, IN for the Opening Round and defeated the Warriors 2-0, to move on to the final site. The Patriots went on to finish in the final eight teams, their best finish in program history.
This season, UC is the #2 seed in the Dalton Bracket while Indiana Tech is the #3 seed. The Warriors are coming off their fourth straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Title, giving them an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament. They are 12-2-6 on the season and only dropped one game in conference all year.
The Patriots and Warriors will square off Thursday, November 17 in Dalton, GA. The game is set to kick-off at 8:30PM ET. Fans must purchase tickets for the game, they can be purchased at the gate or online
