Kansas City, MO – After two strong showings to start the season, the UC women's wrestling team drops one place to #6 in the first regular season NAIA Coaches' Poll of the season, announced by the national office Thursday. The Patriots went from 11 wrestlers to eight in the top-20 of their weight classes, but still had 125 points in the poll.

Two wrestlers were able to move up in their rankings from the preseason poll in Jesse Kirby and Aliyah Yates. Both had top finishes at the season opener, the Falcon Invite. For Kirby she is now ranked 4th in the 191-weight class after her top-three finish to start the season. She went 4-1 at the tournament with three tech fall victories.

For Yates, she moves up to #6 in the 136-weight class. She claimed her first individual title as a Patriot at the Falcon Invite. She went 5-0 with a pair of fall wins and never let an opponent score a point on her throughout the tournament.

Several UC wrestlers also held their positioning in Dymond Guilford, Alexis Medina, and Chamira Cooper. Guilford is yet to wrestler this season for UC, after coming off her time with the senior U.S national team. But she is the defending national champion at the 170-weight class and stays ranked first. Medina has also not wrestled this year, but stays locked in at #3 for the 116-weight class thanks to her excellent performance at NAIA Nationals last year. Cooper stays ranked at #4, joining Guildford in the 170-weight class and also has not competed this season, but did All-American last year.

MaQuoia Bernabe competed in her first competition of the season at the Eagle Madness Open. Her second-place finish helped be ranked at #12 in the 191-weight class. The tournament was round robin style and Bernabe went 4-1 picking up three fall wins, including one at just 31 seconds.

The Pats are still well represented at the 101-weight class in Elizabeth Dosado and Angelina Castaneda. They are ranked right by each other, with Dosado leading the way at 10th. Dosado was able to win the 101-weight class at the Falcon Invite, with a perfect 3-0 record with one from a tech fall. Dosado and Castaneda were supposed to face each other in the finals, but Castaneda had to forfeit due to injury. But Castaneda was able to recover and competed in the Eagle Madness Open, claiming fifth place.

Cumberlands is set to take part in their third competition of the season tomorrow, November 18. They will take the mats at the Missouri Valley Open over the course of two days in Marshall, MO.
