Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) had three players in double figures and shot 47.1% from the field to improve to 3-0 with an 88-53 win over Simmons Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, UC has now won 13 straight home openers, while the Falcons move to 2-2 on the year.
Kassie Monday led the way with 15 points and a team-high seven assists, while Kaylie Monday added 10 points, five steals, five rebounds, and five assists. Brittni Allison notched a career-high 10 points, while Mackenzie Babb recorded a career-high nine points to go along with eight rebounds.
Channing Lewis and Lakin Burke chipped in eight points each and combined for 13 rebounds.
Off the opening tip, Kassie Monday found Kaylie Monday for a layup to put Cumberlands in front early. Kaylie Monday added another rebound before Casey Coleman scored three straight points to make it 7-4 three minutes into the game. Kassie Monday and Kaylie Monday were key in a Patriots 12-0 run combining for six points and four steals over that stretch making it 19-4 with 4:14 remaining.
Destiny Haworth and Victory Fredricks each added a basket as UC closed out the first quarter with a 25-12 edge.
Simmons opened the second quarter with four straight points, however, UC responded with baskets from Babb and Lewis to push the lead back to 13 points, 29-16. Cumberlands utilized an 11-0 run that included a three-pointer and a steal from Haworth to extend the lead to 40-18 with 3:59 left in the half. Kaedlee Potter added three points and Allison drained one from behind-the-arc to give the Patriots a 7-2 run to close out the second quarter with UC in front 47-22.
The Patriots went to the post early in the third quarter with the first six point as UC got buckets from Lewis, Fredricks, and Burke to make it 53-28 with 6:33 left. Kassie Monday added three points a steal and an assists as part of a 7-0 run to push the score to 58-28 midway through the quarter. Later in the quarter, Burke and Babb combined for the final four UC points giving them a 66-36 edge heading into the fourth.
Cumberlands opened the fourth quarter with Joy Kendrick finding Whitney Caldwell in the corner for a three-pointer. The trio of Allison, Babb, and Caldwell combined for the next ten Cumberlands points making it 79-45. Jaiden Cox added an offensive board and put back with Allison connected with Babb for a layup extending the lead to 83-45 with 3:01 remaining. The Falcons scored six of the final eight points in the game fort the 88-53 final.
UC will return to the court Friday, November 4, as they host Campbellsville Harrodsburg in the Patriot Classic. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. with live stats available
