NAIA Top-25 Coaches Poll: Final
Kansas City, MO – For the second straight NAIA Coaches' Poll, the UC men's soccer team stays ranked 24
th, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
The Patriots earned 128 points, which is 39 more points than Corban (Ore.) ranked right behind them in 25
th.
Cumberlands finished up their regular season with a 9-4-3 record and are coming off a 2-1 victory in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals over Campbellsville. UC's success this season was rewarded with seven players being named to the MSC All-Conference list highlighted by
Pablo Vazquez earning MSC Player of the Year.
Of the seven making the MSC All-Conference list, four were on First Team in Vazquez,
Stephen Appiah,
Tommaso Ogliari, and
Rodrigo Riveros. On Second Team, UC had
Bruno Garcia,
Storm Hollensted, and
Shuma Sasaki.
Vazquez and the UC defense has been one of the best in the NAIA this season, holding opponents to just .65 goals against average for 11
th best in the country. Appiah, Cumberlands leading goal scorer, is tied for fourth in goals, netting 10 so far this season. Riveros is not far behind Appiah, having scored seven goals, tying him for 14
th in the MSC. For assists,
Alejandro Gonzalez and Sasaki lead the squad with five, tying them for 15
th best in the conference.
The Pats are still the top-ranked MSC team, with Bethel at receiving votes for the only Mid-South teams mentioned in the poll.
Cumberlands will look to continue their postseason run when they face Bethel in the MSC semifinals later today. The game is set for a 6:30PM ET kickoff, with the game held at Grissom Pitch on the campus of Tennessee Southern. The two teams have already squared off this season, UC came out victorious by a score of 2-1.
