West Point, GA – Patriots top the Skyhawks 9-3 in the first of a three-game series on Friday Night. 11
th ranked UC advances to 8-3 on the season.
Thomas Gutierrez got his third start and win of the season after pitching 6.0 innings giving up three hits, one earned run, three walks, with six strikeouts.
Gabriel Ramos came in relief and pitched 1.0 innings giving up two hits, one earned run, and no walks or strikeouts.
Chipper Korbacher came in to close and pitched 2.0 innings allowing no hits, runs, or walks, and four strikeouts.
Sean Cheely went 2-5 with a walk and a home run.
Carlos Muniz continued his hot streak going 3-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Muniz got the scoring going for UC as he singled down the left field line, bringing home Cheely for the first run.
Candido Encarnacion was next, and he singled through the right side, allowing
Raphy Almanzar to reach home for the 2-0 lead.
Sujel Arias would also come home on a passed ball, to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the next at bat, UC got the bases loaded. Muniz stepped to the plate and notched another single, bringing home Cheely again, for the 4-0 lead.
Later in the top of the 4
th, scored four runs to expand the lead to 8-0. Arias got two RBIs as he singled up the middle, sending home
Ray Villanueva and Almanzar. Two batters later Encarnacion singled through the left side, scoring another two runs.
Cumberlands would get one more run off a leadoff homer by Cheely in the 5
th. Point would score three runs to end the game 9-3.
UC will stay out in West Point, GA for a double-header against Point to complete the three-game series. Starting tomorrow at 1pm.
