Box Score 2 West Point, GA – The 11
th-ranked Patriots sweeps the day, taking down the Skyhawks 11-1 in the first game and 13-1 in the second. UC advances to 10-3 on the season.
Braxton Cottongame goes to 3-0 after pitching 5.1 innings giving up eight hits, one run, four walks, and four strikeouts.
Caleb Plummer came in relief and pitched 1.2 innings allowing no hits,runs, or walks with two strikeouts. Both
Carlos Muniz and
Sujel Arias went 3-4 with an RBI and a double.
The Patriots struck first in the top of the first inning as
Raphy Almanzar drew a one-out walk. Two batters later, Arias doubled to left center to bring Almanzar home giving UC the early 1-0 lead.
After a response by Point in the 2
nd, UC would gain control in the fourth beginning the inning with back-to-back singles.
Candido Encarnacion drilled an RBI double down the right field line, bringing Arias home for the 2-1 lead.
The Pats added to their lead in the sixth, scoring five runs. The runs came by way of an error, an RBI single by
Seth Benner, a two-run RBI double by
Ernies Lozada, as well as an RBI sacrifice fly by
Sean Cheely. That got the lead to 7-1.
Then in the seventh UC tallied another four runs to get the 11-1 win. This time Muniz would get an RBI single. Then with the bases loaded,
Shane Jones would get walked, which scored a run. Benner got a sacrifice fly, sending Muniz home. Lastly, Lozada struck out swinging but a Skyhawks error allowed UC to score another run.
Game Two:
Hunter Rigsby started and got the win after pitching 6.0 innings only allowing three hits, one run, three walks and nine strikeouts.
Walter Hernandez came in and pitched 1.0 innings giving up one hit, no walks or runs.
Kevin Perez went 2-2,
Ray Villanueva went 3-3 with three RBIs, and
Ernies Lozada came away 2-2 with three RBIs.
Lozada got the scoring started with an RBI single in the top of the second.
Rhett Gipe then got an RBI from a fielder's choice giving the Pats a 2-0 lead.
Then in the third Cumberlands caught fire on offense scoring eight runs. An RBI single from Arias got it started. Benner stepped up to the plate and got an RBI double down the left field line. Lozada would then get another two RBI single, for a 6-0 lead. Cheely would then bring home a run with a single. With the bases loaded Villanueava doubled to center field, scoring three runs for the 9-0 lead.
Later in the fifth, Perez would score, followed by a single by
Frank Garcia for an RBI. Then with the bases loaded
Andres Rolon got walked bringing in a run. After to get the score to 12-1,
Daniel Maldonado sacrificed to bring home a run.
The Patriots are back on the road, headed to Barbourville, KY to take on Union in a double header on Feb 22.
